有两个很要好的朋友到西藏去了。好羡慕她们的洒脱也羡慕她们的经济许可。经济不许可的我只好到图书馆去，看看西藏的书，解解渴。意外地发现了这本书，与《神圣的山对话》，作者却是个白人，律师和政治经济学家，怎么会迷恋山城，并将其下半生的精力去维护西藏，山区和少数民族的文化，为山区的孩子建学校办教育，建医疗所维护生命。
这书写着作者如何去寻找各族人心中的Shangri-la. 每个族群心中都认为自己的家乡，自己的圣山才是真正的Shangri-la. 作者Brahm 从都市里的成功画家和艺术家开始了解中国有关山的事迹和文化。再慢慢地接触真正与山共存的原住民。地方的老者像学者为他揭开层层关于山的神秘面纱。有很多的时候，不论他多么费力地去理解其中的禅学和意义，始终无法了解。
而这本寻找神圣山的旅程很像高行健的小说《灵山》的真人真事版，我猜想高先生是否有看过或听过类似的故事而写出了灵山。也许我们生活当中有许多寻找圣山的人。每接近山的一步，就是更接近自己心灵的一步。
书里写了关于昆明，大理，丽江，Lugu，Zhongdian，Kawagebo的故事。每一段故事都有各族人属于自己的声音要传达。有些话很感人：

You will return to the mountain one day in your subconscious at a point to be arrived at, only when you finally cease to remember.
